Fixed price vs metered fare
A taxi's final fare is unknown until the trip ends — it depends on distance, time of day, waiting time and applicable surcharges. A private transfer quotes a single all-inclusive price at the moment of booking, which does not change if there is traffic, a detour or a flight delay.
Meet & Greet
Taxis pick up from the rank outside the terminal. Private transfer drivers typically wait inside the arrivals hall with a name sign and assist with luggage to the vehicle — useful with family, business groups or after a long flight.
Flight monitoring
Standard taxis do not track flights; if a flight is delayed, there may be no taxi waiting, and if it is early, the meter may start once a vehicle is hailed. Most private transfer operators include real-time flight tracking and adjust the pickup time automatically.
Waiting time
Taxi meters charge for waiting time once the trip has started. Reputable private transfer operators include a free grace period at the airport — commonly 60 minutes after landing — which absorbs immigration and baggage delays without extra cost.
Vehicle quality
A taxi rank dispatches whichever vehicle is next in line, so the model, age and condition vary. With a private transfer the vehicle class is chosen at booking — for example a Mercedes E-Class for individuals or couples, an S-Class for business travel or a V-Class for families and groups.
Child seats
Cyprus law requires children to use an appropriate restraint, but ordinary taxis rarely carry baby or booster seats. Private transfer operators usually supply them on request, often free of charge, when the child's age is provided at booking.
Online booking & confirmation
Taxi bookings are typically informal: a phone call or a short app trip. Private transfers are confirmed in writing — pickup point, date, time, vehicle class and price — via website forms, WhatsApp or Telegram.
Payment options
Cyprus taxis primarily take cash in EUR; card terminals are increasingly common but not universal. Private transfer operators usually accept cash, bank cards and digital wallets such as Revolut, and many allow advance online payment.
Reliability
Both are licensed and insured. The practical difference is predictability: with a private transfer the exact vehicle, driver and price are committed at booking, including for late-night and early-morning travel when taxi availability can be uneven.
