A clear, neutral comparison of Cyprus taxis and private Mercedes transfers — pricing, comfort, safety, flight monitoring and reliability — written by an owner-operated transfer company based in Cyprus.
Introduction
Cyprus is a small island with two international airports and several resort regions that travellers want to reach quickly. From the moment you land at Larnaca Airport (LCA) or Paphos Airport (PFO), you face a simple but important question: how do you get to your hotel in Limassol, Ayia Napa, Protaras, Nicosia, Paphos or Paralimni?
Public buses exist, but they are infrequent, do not run late at night and rarely stop at your accommodation. Car rental is an option, but most holidaymakers prefer not to drive on the left after a long flight, with luggage and tired children in tow. That leaves two practical choices: a Cyprus taxi at the rank, or a pre-booked private airport transfer.
Both are legitimate, regulated services — but they are very different products. A tourist on a quick city errand, a family arriving at midnight, a business traveller heading to a meeting in Nicosia, and a couple celebrating an anniversary in Protaras all have different priorities. This guide explains exactly how Cyprus taxis and private transfers compare, so you can choose the right option for your trip.
Option 1
A traditional Cyprus taxi is a licensed vehicle that operates on a meter. You hail one at an official rank — outside arrivals at Larnaca and Paphos airports, beside major hotels, or in the centre of Limassol, Nicosia, Larnaca and Paphos — or you phone a local dispatcher. There is no central app comparable to Uber, because Uber is not available in Cyprus; the local equivalents are individual taxi companies and a handful of regional apps.
The fare is calculated from the moment the meter starts. Tariffs are regulated and include a base fee, a per-kilometre charge, a per-minute waiting charge and supplements for night-time travel (typically 20:30–06:00), Sundays, public holidays and luggage handled by the driver.
Option 2
A private airport transfer in Cyprus is a chauffeur-driven service booked in advance for a specific route, time and vehicle class. Instead of stepping into the first car in the rank, you receive a written confirmation with the driver's name, the vehicle (for example a Mercedes E-Class, S-Class or V-Class), the pickup point and the fixed total price — before the trip begins.
The service typically includes:
In short, a private transfer trades the spontaneity of a metered taxi for predictability, comfort and a written guarantee of price and vehicle.

The fleet
After a long-haul flight from London, Tel Aviv, Dubai or Moscow, the vehicle you step into matters. Mercedes-Benz is the standard for chauffeur work in Cyprus for the same reasons it is used worldwide: build quality, safety, ride comfort and luggage space.
The everyday business saloon. Seats up to three adults with two large suitcases, quiet cabin, smooth ride on Cyprus motorways — ideal for couples, business travellers and solo arrivals.
The flagship limousine. Heated and ventilated rear seats, exceptional acoustic insulation and a chauffeur-grade interior — chosen for VIP arrivals, corporate pickups and special occasions.
The premium people-carrier. Seats up to seven adults with room for full luggage, strollers and golf bags — the obvious choice for families, friends travelling together and small corporate groups.
Climate control, fresh water, leather seats — recovery starts in the car.
E-Class fits 2 large + 2 cabin; V-Class swallows full family loads.
Better insulation than any regular taxi — calls and conversations stay private.
Modern Mercedes platforms include lane assist, adaptive braking and stability control as standard.
Where we drive
The vast majority of our intercity transfers connect the two international airports with the island's main resort and business cities. The most common routes start at Larnaca Airport (LCA) — the busier of the two — and run to Limassol, Ayia Napa, Protaras, Nicosia, Larnaca city itself, and Paphos.
Paphos Airport (PFO) serves the western side of the island and is the natural arrival point for Paphos and Coral Bay, with onward private transfers available to Limassol, Larnaca, Nicosia and the eastern resorts. Many guests staying in Paralimni and the surrounding villages also use private transfers because public transport in that region is limited.
Distances on Cyprus are modest by international standards — Larnaca Airport to Limassol is around 45 minutes, to Ayia Napa around 45 minutes, to Protaras around one hour and to Paphos around 1 hour 45 minutes — but the comfort of a fixed-price Mercedes makes a noticeable difference after a long flight.
